In one breath
Parts 12 and 13 said that every kind of travel in this model is a change of coordinates, and listed the ways to force it. This part opens the three toolboxes MM actually published in detail. The DIY portal (ten posts, June to November 2020) is an engineer's design study: measure the gravity signature of a place and of a person, cancel the place's signature inside a magnet big enough to walk through, write the destination's signature onto the collapsing field, and the traveller is "instantly entangled with the new coordinates". Titor's machine (four articles plus five transcript dumps, most from December 2018) does the same job with different parts: two spinning micro-singularities make a gravity wave, four cesium clocks and a "gravity lock" keep the car on solid ground, and every trip lands on a slightly different world-line. Hemi-Sync (six posts, 2021) is the no-hardware route: a different tone in each ear, the brain follows the difference, and consciousness loosens from the body. None of the three is demonstrated anywhere in the archive, and MM says so in his own way for each.
Three machines at three scales
It helps to see the three side by side before going into any of them. The first is the size of a building. The second fits in the back of a car. The third is a pair of headphones. In the model they all do one thing: they change what the traveller is entangled with, either the place and time the body is tied to, or the body the consciousness is tied to.
The DIY portal: the ten posts
MM opened the series on 28 June 2020 with a plain observation: "Not everyone is satisfied in using intention / prayer to alter their reality." Nine more posts followed, the last on 18 November 2020. The index page calls it "everything that you need to construct your very own dimensional portal", warns that "the equations tend to be a tad esoteric", and tells the reader to start an "engineer's notebook" from post 2 onward. Here is the whole series as a route.
Step one: a place is a set of frequencies
The whole design rests on the idea from part 2 of this series (and part 2 of the model): a world-line is a frozen picture, and a frozen picture can be described as waves. "Since we know, by quantum physics, that every thing in our 'universe' can be represented as either a particle or a wave. And all waves can be associated with a specific frequency." So the "address" of here-and-now is a spectrum, and the easiest thing to measure that tracks it is local gravity, to many decimal places. MM's example numbers make the problem obvious: "if you leave at a gravity reading of 121.8723675092384 then where would a gravity reading of 121.8276746592847536 take you?" You have a coordinate but no map. Posts 8 and 9 come back to that.
The second problem is that two things stand in the portal: the portal itself (with its surroundings) and the traveller. Their signatures must be separated, because only one of them is going to be erased. Post 2 borrows a technique from geophysics, wavelet analysis of gravity anomalies, and names a specific filter: "The isotropic and low-pass wavelet filter, Halo wavelet, is used in the synthetic and real data processing." The claim is that "a person walking into a dimensional portal can effectively be isolated into separate gravitational entities at any given specific moment in time."
Step two: erase, then rewrite
Post 5 is where the design becomes a procedure. Inside a magnetic field "of the proper configuration" the traveller "is isolated from the surrounding influences. You become an individual within a 'container'." Entanglements with the starting place are "turned off (if not momentarily erased)". Then a new set of coordinates is presented, and by MM's one-line version of Alan Holt's idea, "Like entanglements attract. Dissimilar entanglements repel." The body attaches to whatever signature is there when the field lets go.
The engineering trick is to treat the portal's own signature as noise. "You generate a 'noise cancelling' signal. It is the completely opposite of the signal that you want to cancel out, and thus 1-1=0." The recorded gravity signals are digitised (post 5 walks through sampling and digital data acquisition), the destination spectrum is laid over the cancelled one using single-sideband modulation, "standard 'boiler plate' frequency manipulation", and the timing rule is simple: "You hold on to the destination coordinates longer than the egress coordinates." The change from old to null to new is "gradual" in shape but "happens very rapidly". Post 7 puts a number on it: the swap runs over "a three-second period".
One line in post 5 shows why the separation in step one is not optional: "Suppressing the gravity frequencies of the traveler inside the magnetic field would completely erase that person from the universe! Yikes!"
The hardware: a magnet you can walk through
Post 6 describes the machine as a cross-section: "You would have this enormous ferrite frame that would carry the magnetic field through an air gap that a person can walk through. This field is generated through a transformer that would pull it from existing powerlines." The gap is the portal. If the ceiling hides the top pole, "the person entering the portal wouldn't even be aware that there was a invisible door there at all. It would jsut be a floor and a wall at the end." Post 7 explains what the traveller is standing in: a "bath" of magnetism, "a 'shower' of charged electrons", cycling "along a sinusoidal path" because, as he puts it, the field "ONLY exists when the electrons are zooming through the electric wire", so the current has to be pulsed.
How strong? MM does not know, and says so. He lists the reference points (Earth about 0.0003 tesla; an MRI 1.5 to 7; the magnets at the LHC about 8.3; enough to levitate a body "on the order of 10+ tesla") and then guesses: "my guess is that it would be somewhere between 5 to 10 tesla. too weak and it would not work, to great, and you might end up with physical disruptions inside the body."
The traveller has a job too. "The traveler will need to center and calm their mind. You see, the way that the mind functions must be neutral when it enters the field. If it is not neutral, then there is a risk of brain or mental instability when the traveler is exposed to peak flux density." MM's answer is the MAJestic word from part 10: "we need to implement the 'feducials' to center the mind." The timing of entry matters as much as the field: the person should be inside while the flux is still rising, so their attachments to the start point are erased before the peak.
Coordinates: what you can dial
Post 8 is the one that turns a teleporter into everything else. It starts with a memory: "When I went through the MAJestic portal back in 1981, the coordinate set consisted of a thickly bound book of computer printouts. It was just reams and reams of numbers and symbols." Then it names four sets of coordinates: the portal at departure, the destination (with or without a portal there), the traveller entering, and the traveller leaving. In all the earlier posts the traveller's numbers are kept identical in and out, so nothing about the person changes. Post 8 asks what happens if you do not keep them identical.
The medical idea follows from part 3 of the model, where memory is not in the brain: "Since memories are stored outside of the brain in the non-physical realities, his memories would stay intact while his body would be that of a much younger man." MM plays it out: a 90-year-old regressed to 21, organs or limbs done separately, changes of build, and, "if you were really good", a complete redesign. Then the travel uses. Distance is free ("Who needs FTL technology, when all you need to do is step into a dimensional portal?"), but "you do need to know where you are going. Otherwise you would probably end up in the middle of deep space, or inside a hot star". Time is a dial. The combination is the one MM finds most tempting: regress yourself to 18 and go back to that year knowing what you know now. He also states the price: "there would be no return for you, and you would be stuck back in that particular time period. And there would be two of 'you'." For him that year is 1976, and he wonders whether he would "feel really, really out of place".
The world-line dial gets the longest treatment, because it is the least predictable. Small coordinate changes can produce a world with no Coca-Cola, no universities, or compulsory pineapple on pizza; the point under the jokes is that "if you change one coordinate value it will influence other values as soon as you 'land'". His conclusion is the same as the series conclusion: "The only way to accurately map the MWI is though careful experimentation," and "The DIY dimensional world-line portal is useless unless you are able to specify destination coordinates."
Making a map: from printouts to Mandelbrot
Post 9 returns to the bound printouts. "The Commander made tweaks to the destination values upon reviewing my printed out handout." That was the height of technology in the early 1980s; MM wants a picture instead. He builds the map in three layers: a normal geographic grid, then a time axis at each point, then "an entirely new set of criteria" for world-line variation, which is "nearly infinite" and can only be handled by comparing it to the departure point. Hence the formula: "Coordinate = [1] location + [2] time + [3] world-line variation."
For the display, he wants something like an audio spectrum analyser but frozen: all the frequencies of location against amplitude, with colour and the second axis carrying "timbre, and pitch (to use audio terms) at any frozen moment in time". Five numbers describe each component: "Wavelength, Amplitude, Time-Period, Frequency and Velocity." And his closing observation is the one the post is named for: "If you manage to plot out these data visualizations you might be surprised to discover that they start to appear as Mandelbrot sets." A route through the MWI is then a path drawn on a fractal, "whether it is geographical, involve time-travel or exploring the near-infinite variations of different world-lines."
Post ten: the geometry of the gap
The last post, written four months after the others, is the most conventional: a magnetics tutorial about air gaps. The gap is "a non-magnetic part of a magnetic circuit"; it stores most of the field's energy; it causes flux fringing at the edges; in laminated cores the fringing flux enters the laminations sideways and heats them through eddy currents, which is why distributed gaps and soft ferrites are mentioned. The scale problem is stated with a film joke (the model house in The Hangover III): take the picture of a bench-top electromagnet "and scale it up", so a gap of an eighth of an inch becomes "six or seven feet tall". His practical advice is to start small: a commercial double-yoke electromagnet with an adjustable gap "will be able to do everything that a big electromagnet can do, except send a human-sized object to another dimension." The conclusion restates the first job: "construct the electromagnet that will be used to erase the universal location frequencies of the traveler. Any strong and powerful enough magnetic field will do".
And the series' own verdict on itself, from post 7, is worth quoting in full because it is the frame MM asks for: "This 'new' information about a DIY dimensional portal strangely fits up and matches with MAJestic technology in widespread use back in the early 1980's. Fully forty years ago." Then: "I am either a [1] genius, [2] a complete lunatic, or [3] someone who is telling the truth. I've given enough, heck!, more than enough information herein for you the reader to choose."
John Titor: the story in dates
MM's four Titor articles each open with an "Important Warning". In part 3 it reads: "The information within this series of posts are speculative. I have no factual information if this John Titor is what he claimed to be." And: "He was, as far as I know, never associated with MAJestic in any way." With that said, he reprints the story in full, because Titor's "time travel" is, in MM's reading, world-line travel with the time coordinate changed, which makes it the reader's easiest on-ramp to his own account.
The story as the archive tells it: on 29 July 1998 a fax reached the radio host Art Bell. "Time travel was invented in 2034. Off-shoots of certain successful fusion reactor research allowed scientists at CERN to produce the world's first contained singularity engine. The basic design involves rotating singularities inside a magnetic field." From late 2000 into 2001 a poster calling himself John Titor (also TimeTravel_0) wrote on forums: "I am a time traveler from the year 2036. I am on my way home after getting an IBM 5100 computer system from the year 1975." The 5100 could translate between old computer languages and was wanted for a 2038 date bug. Our world-line was a stop-over: he came to see his parents and himself as a two-year-old, and, in MM's telling, to warn them away from the Y2K trouble that led to civil war on his own line. He claimed his line was "1% to 2%" divergent from ours; MM thinks "2 to 3%" is more realistic once you have landed, and rising the longer you stay. He also said his line had "10 type C204 time machines, and 20 type C206".
His predictions are the reason most people have heard of him, and MM lists them without softening: "There is a civil war in the United States that starts in 2005." "A nuclear war against the federal empire and the cities occurred in 2015". "There were no Olympics after 2004." None happened. MM offers three readings: Titor lied about the dates, Titor changed our line by being here (he "has thus 'taken credit'" for a quiet Y2K), or, "more plausible", he misremembered them, the way most of us could not date the start of the Vietnam war. "For purposes of enjoyment" MM re-plots them with a ten-year buffer and notes the fit with the Strauss-Howe generational cycle. This is MM's device for reading a dated forecast, not a new forecast.
The C204 unit
Part 3 of MM's series is the machine. In Titor's words: "My 'time' machine is a stationary mass, temporal displacement unit manufactured by General Electric. The unit is powered by two, top-spin, dual-positive singularities that produce a standard, off-set Tipler sinusoid." The physics chain MM lays out step by step: acceleration equals time dilation; gravity equals acceleration; a large enough gravity is a black hole; a rotating black hole has a doughnut-shaped singularity; passing through a doughnut singularity, by the Kerr solution and Frank Tipler's calculations, takes you "into another universe or world-line"; and two controllable micro-singularities close together can imitate that passage without a real black hole. Titor said the hard part was elsewhere: "Altering gravity is not the hard part. Detecting gravity is the hard part." The first prototypes, sent back for a split second with cameras on board, "never returned".
Titor: charge on the singularities widens the inner event horizons; added mass widens the area of influence; rotating and positioning their polar axes shapes the field. Together they make and steer the Tipler sinusoid.
Before leaving, the unit reads local gravity and locks the sinusoid to it: "in effect, it holds you to the 'Earth'." During the trip it keeps sampling; "If the gravity is too far off, the unit stops or reverses itself to the last sample period where the readings were correct." That is what stops you arriving inside a wall or underwater.
"in a sense you do *dial in* a date and the computer system controls the distortion field. At maximum power, the unit I have is capable of traveling about 10 years an hour."
"Miniaturizing the clocks and sensors, creating clever ways to vent x-rays and creating a computer system dependable enough to calculate the changes required to the field were the main challenges."
A code, and: "the unit cannot be used by anyone who can't add and subtract."
Like "driving under a rainbow", then "driving under a tunnel and being in total black"; "the car is off and the brake is on"; a steady G force and a "tug toward the unit similar to rising quickly in an elevator." Room for "about three people and equipment", with mass limits.
Light bends around the vehicle, a burst of ultraviolet ("We have to wear sunglasses"), a static discharge, the air ripples "as if it were getting denser", and a chunk of ground goes with it: "It sort of vibrates it loose and takes it along for the ride." To the watchers "I will only have been gone for a split second."
"it's not as if anyone can use those drawings to take the electron manifold off the singularity housing with a flat head screwdriver."
The 60-year wall
The number MM singles out is the range. "The C204 begins to 'break away' at about 60 years. This means the level of confidence drops rapidly after 60 years of travel and the world-line divergence increases." Titor's own illustration: "if I wanted to go back 2000 years and meet Christ, there is a better than average chance I would end up on a world-line where he was never born." The divergence confidence of a normal trip is put at "about 1-2%", and the next model, the C206 with six clocks and an optical frequency check, was meant to tighten it. Compare MM's own limit of about 2% in manual mode, from part 12.
MM's verdict on Titor
Two things bother him and several convince him. What bothers him is the manual: the cross-section drawing looks original, but the typed pages do not read like a military document. "There aren't any slashes through the number zero." Dates are in civilian format: "March 21, 2034 should be written as '21MAR34'." He suspects Titor "created some false documents that he seeded within the baseline documentation" and admits that "taken as a whole, this discrepancy would be enough to rule out any authenticity of this disclosure. That is, if I wasn't involved in MAJestic and know what I know". What convinces him is the effort: the physical unit in the photographs, the cross-section, the laser-light photo "both convincing and difficult to fake using 1998 software", the Geiger counter reading above zero, the manually adjustable singularity grips with orientation pointers ("not something that is of a trivial nature"), and the wired remote and oxygen mask in the pictures. Plus the disinformation tell he applies everywhere: the full transcripts became hard to find. His conclusion in part 4: "In my mind, I happen to believe his story. I do believe that he is leaving certain things out."
The afterlife of the story is in part 4 too. The device was patented: application 10/954,767, filed 1 October 2004 by Marlin B. Pohlman of Tulsa, published as US 2006/0073976 A1, with the same drawings and a claim describing "two Kerr type positively charged rotating dilation singularities". What happened to Pohlman afterwards is a story MM tells at length and leaves to the reader. Then the fakes: "photos" proving a politician is Titor, a music video, fake later Titors with book deals, a 2012 puzzle website nobody decoded. On the technology itself MM's last word is that it "is not the ONLY way to conduct world-line travel. I have been exposed to two other ways of accomplishing this using radically different technology." One of those, the walk-through portal, is the DIY series above.
Hemi-Sync: the sound route
The third toolbox needs no magnet. MM's introduction (February 2021) reprints a VICE article about a 1983 report that went viral on TikTok, and puts a grounding note above it: "Dear MM reader; don't get too caught up on the CIA, and other things that seem outer-worldly and fantastical. Keep yourself grounded and keep in mind that we are consciousness that inhabits a body within a reality that is constantly changing through our thoughts."
The technique is Robert Monroe's. A radio executive, he found in 1958 that certain sounds produced "sensations of paralysis and vibration accompanied by bright light", then an out-of-body experience, and spent the rest of his life on it: the book Journeys Out of the Body (1971), the first patents (1975) for audio that pushes the two brain hemispheres into step, the name "Hemi-Sync" for that state. The mechanism is the frequency following response: "an external frequency emulating a recognized one will cause the brain to mimic it." To reach "these unnatural levels", "Hemi-Sync puts a single frequency in the left ear and a contrasting frequency in the right", and the brain follows the difference. The report's image for the result is a lamp versus a laser: normally the mind "expends energy like a lamp, in a chaotic and incoherent way"; under Hemi-Sync it produces "a disciplined stream of light".
The Gateway report
The report is "Analysis and Assessment of the Gateway Process", written in 1983 by Lieutenant Colonel Wayne M. McDonnell after the commander of the US Army Operational Group asked him to work out how the Gateway Experience, astral projection and out-of-body states function. He worked with Itzhak Bentov, a biomedical engineer. His method is deliberately conventional: biomedicine for the body, quantum mechanics for consciousness, theoretical physics for how consciousness could leave space-time, and classical physics to strip the occult tone off the whole thing. Before Gateway he explains hypnosis (put the critical left hemisphere to sleep) and transcendental meditation (acoustic waves from the heartbeat running through the brain's fluid cavities), so the reader has two known altered states to compare with.
Then the part MM is interested in. Matter is oscillating energy grids at different rates: a nucleus around 10 to the 22nd, a molecule around 10 to the 9th, a cell around 10 to the 3rd. The interference of all this moving energy makes a hologram, which is our experienced reality. "Time is a measurement of energy or force in motion; it is a measurement of change." A wave oscillates between two points of rest, and "When a wave hits one of those points of rest, just for a very brief instant, it 'clicks out' of spacetime and joins infinity." If consciousness can be separated from the body first, the click-out has "a running head start" and more time in contact with other dimensions. The universe as a whole is drawn as a torus, a self-contained spiral holding "all the phases of time: the past, present, and future." MM's inserted comment ties it to his model in one sentence: "This is very similar to the way that the consciousness moves in and out of different world-lines. It moves in a sine wave. One instance it is in a world-line, and the next it is between world-lines in the non-physical reality."
The report's own reservations are printed too, and MM keeps them. McDonnell worries about "information distortion" in anything brought back; the Monroe Institute's test of sending people out-of-body from the west coast to read numbers off a screen on the east coast failed: "They never got them exactly right." He then argues that the physics is sound anyway, cites Tibetan, Hindu, Hebrew and Christian traditions that describe the same structure, and ends with "an A-type nod" to Gateway as a faster, cheaper route to expanded consciousness and a list of recommendations to the CIA for national-defence uses. One page, 25, is missing from the released copy, mid-sentence; the CIA's answer to requests is that it never had it. MM's own quick note at the end: "This is an introductory post to this subject. I will include better, more 'meaty' posts subsequent to this."
What MM hosts
The "meaty" posts turned out to be the audio itself. Between February and September 2021 MM posted four Monroe Institute packages as lossless files. He explains the format: MP3 discards "parts of the audio information that people are not likely to hear", and "Hemi-Sync contains frequencies and audio wavelengths that are traditionally considered as 'unnecessary' and thus is often removed using an MP3 format", so the files are FLAC. And the usage rule: "you need to wear headphones or ear-buds for the effect to manifest."
Eight tracks by the musician Aeoliah with Hemi-Sync underneath (Harmonic Resonance 10:44, Starseed Sanctuary 10:10, Inner Chamber 6:11, The Treasure 10:18, Hearts of the Future 6:03, Isis Maria 5:06, Ascension Activation Portal 8:29, Stargate 3:30). MM: "perfect for undoing the noise, the 'news' and the hassles of daily life."
A single file, "an introductory post", to show "what consciousness centering is all about". "You can play it while you are walking or resting. I think that resting is best".
A narrated self-hypnosis session. MM's one-line definition in the post: "Hemi-Sync is a method of control that uses sounds to center the activity in the brain."
The full study kit: 11 "Subject" files, 12 "Support" files, and a manual to read first. Its purpose, in MM's words: it "enables the person to train their mind to begin 'lucid dreaming', eventually out of the body consciousness movements, and other related activity." This is the practical bridge to part 13's lucid-dreaming toolkit.
How the three fit together
Erases the room's signature, writes a new one, and lets entanglement do the rest. Needs a building, a coordinate map and a portal at the far end to come home. MM's status: a design study that "matches with MAJestic technology" of the early 1980s.
Shapes gravity directly with two singularities, and uses clocks and a gravity lock to stay on solid ground. Range about 60 years; every trip makes a new line. MM's status: "speculative", believed, "quite crude".
Nudges the brain into a coherent state so consciousness can loosen from the body and "click out" of space-time. Nothing physical moves. MM's status: hosted for readers to try, with the report's fidelity warning kept.
All three change what the traveller is attached to. Part 5 of the DIY series says it for all of them: "everything interacts intimately with it's surroundings. We automatically become entangled with the things around us."
Read this before you build or buy anything
Nothing in this part has been demonstrated in the archive. The DIY series is a thought experiment written by an engineer, which is what MM calls it; its tesla figures are his guesses, its three named hazards are waved past as "minor", and it stops before materials and construction notes. The Titor articles begin with MM's own line that they are "speculative". The Hemi-Sync posts are audio to listen to at rest with headphones, and even the 1983 report says out-of-body readers "never got them exactly right." Treat the whole part as a record of what MM published, not as instructions that work.
Remember
- A place is a spectrum; precise local gravity is MM's stand-in for it. That is the DIY series in one line.
- The portal cycle is erase, null, rewrite, re-entangle, over about three seconds, inside a gap seven feet high.
- Change the destination's numbers and you travel; change the traveller's and you change the traveller.
- Titor's C204: two spinning singularities, four cesium clocks, a gravity lock, 10 years an hour, a 60-year wall, a new world-line every trip.
- MM believes Titor, doubts his manual, and says there are two other ways to do it.
- Hemi-Sync: a tone in each ear, the brain follows the difference, consciousness loosens; FLAC and headphones, at rest.
- One idea under all three: change what you are entangled with.
